The principal exhibit of the Kirkstall Forge, Ltd., Leeds, consists of the Butler-Davis patent back axle made by this company. The design obviates a nuinber of objections to the ordinary, axle., whilst the weight is kept to a minimum, and at the same time great rigidity And increased strength are obtamed. In the parts. wham these are most required there are joints for oil to leak through, and the whole axle is weldlesse -consisting of a single drop forging, thus eliminating possibilities of defects as occur with castings. It is readily adapted to either bevel gear or warm drive.
