Mr Torn Wilkie, managing director of Wilkie's Transport of Edinburgh, dealt with the issue of collective bargaining, which he said provided a satisfactory method in determining wages and conditions of work satisfactory to both employee and employer.
It was his opinion that collective bargaining was the only effective method of dealing with industrial relations today.
He said that the principal concern of any employee was to maintain and improve their standard of living, through salary increases, better working conditions, more leisure time and job satisfaction and these objectives occasionally run contrary to the objectives of employers.
