THE BIGGEST trailer yet from York's special trailer division this "oil field float" for operation at up to 120 tons gcw. It is built to carry payloads of up to 90 tons on a platform which stands 2.1m (7ft) above the ground.

The 17.4 x 4.6 m (57 x 15ft) platform is designed to lower until the nose touches the ground, enabling such loads as vehicles, equipment or even complete buildings to be hauled aboard.

Although the landing legs obviously need to fold out of the way to enable the trailer to be lowered, the legs are not power operated.

The actual raising and lowering operation is done by a winch on the special oil field tractive unit (a three-axle Kenworth).

The cable hooks on to the horizontal bar which can just be seen in the nose of the platform — the holes on either side are for access to the braking and electrical couplings.

A standard kingpin design 15 used although the diameter has been increased from 51M111 to 89mm (2in to 3.5in).

The main chassis memben of the trailer are 840cm (2f1 9in) deep while the side rail; are 480cm (1ft 3in) deep.

Notable features of th, trailer include a full-width reai roller and angled rear bumpe which forms a vertical stoj when the nose is lowered.

The load is then wincher aboard with the tract° against this bumper.

York's own Argonaut wal king-beam suspension is use with York heavy duty axle fitted with 21.00 x 25 tyres 01 10-stud wheels.
