Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A device from Tecalemit that gives a direct visual indication of both the wheel brake force and the pedal pressure for brake testing, one of the few pieces of test equipment exhibited at the Show, has three sections: roller assembly, console and recorder.

The roller assembly has not been fitted at the Show and a simulator is used. However, the assembly has four rollers chain driven in pairs from two electric motors; the rollers are coated with aluminium oxide to reproduce dry road friction qualities. Braking force applied on either the left-hand or right-hand roller pair produces a torque reaction on the appropriate motor. This is measured by strain gauges and fed to the control console.

When a braking force sufficient to lock continued overleaf either of the wheels is applied a slip roller which is being driven by the wheel ceases to revolve. This interrupts a pulse signal and the appropriate wheel-slip light on both console and remote control unit is illuminated.

The brake test requires only one man, all the necessary operations being instigated from the remote control unit operated by the driver from the cab.

The driver sets the vehicle rolling after setting the gauges at zero. When the wheel-slip lights illuminate, he turns a switch on the remote control unit that locks the indicator(s) on the console and he thus gets his brake-pressure reading. Should the reading(s) be erratic the pressure record button is brought into use and it is possible to get a print-out diagram of braking force on each wheel and also the pedal pressure required. This diagram can be compared with an ideal pressure templet provided with the equipment.
