Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

AN application by Continental Camping Tours (London) Ltd. to be heard in the Metropolitan Traffic Court on November 30 could well turn into a test case regarding the general operation of 12 m. coaches in this country. The application concerns the operation of tours from Earls Court Road, London, to the Middle East or Western Europe employing Sleepcoaches (" The Commercial Motor ", October 8 and 15), which will be two MAN vehicles of 36 ft. 9.1 in. overall length, or a Bussing coach, recently ordered, with an overall length of 39 ft. 4 in.

Although the company is facing stiff opposition from other operators so far as the actual service is concerned, the interest surrounding the application is the use of vehicles in this country longer than the present permissible 36 ft. A special order is required from the Minister of Transport to permit such coaches to operate in Britain. irrespective of the Traffic Commissioner's decision. It is understood that the Minister is at present considering making such an order.

For some time the bus and coach associations have been pressing for the maximum permissible length to he increased to 40 ft. to bring Britain in line with most of the Continent. The company has been operating MAN Sleep. coaches in this country in recent weeks under special dispensation from the Ministry, and one of the vehicles was inspected by Ministry officials, including Mr. Perring. So the outcome of the application is of particular interest.

Newport Orders AtIanteans : Newport (Mon) Corporation transport committee has accepted a tender of Leyland Motors Ltd. for the supply of eight Atlantean doubledeck, front-entrance bus chassis with 0.680 engine and power-assisted handbrake, at a cost of 0,226 each.
