PURCHASES of 34 more vehicles from British Road Services-17 in each of the Western and Northern Areas—were announced by the Licensing Authorities on Tuesday. They are as follows:—

AMBULANCE DRIVERS TOLD TO OBSERVE THE LAW
MEMBERS of the National Ambulance Service Association have been advised to observe the law "in all its aspects," following a charge of dangerous driving brought by the -police against an ambulance driver who was said to be carrying a dying man.
The charge was dismissed by Newcastle upon Tyne magistrates, on Tuesday, without calling on the defence. Costs of £10 5s. were awarded against the police.
BUS PROFITS LOWER
TWO bus companies—East Kent Road Car Co., Ltd., and Barton Transport, Ltd.—made lower profits last year than in the previous year. After providing for taxation (£102,502), East Kent made a net profit in the year ended September 30 last of £95,550, compared with £144,262 a year earlier. Before providing for taxation (£22,027), Barton Transport earned a profit of £32,428, contrasted with £33,812.
East Kent are paying a dividend of 8+ per cent., and Barton Transport one of 7+ per cent. on doubled capital.
PROFIT INSTEAD OF LOSS LTHOUGH a deficit of £147,345 r't for Liverpool Transport Department in the year ending March next, had been forecast, the undertaking has so far produced a surplus of £18,575. Improved maintenance and a careful watch on all vehicles has resulted in savings in fuel consumption to the value of £3,700 a year. It is hoped to extend engine life by using new types of oil. 135
