THE LEVEL OF traffic on UK roads rose 0.2% between the last quarter of 2004 and the first quarter of 2005; light vans led the way with growth of 6%.
In its report, Road Traffic in Great Britain: Q1 2005, the Department for Transport reveals overall goods vehicle traffic also jumped 5% during the period.Truck traffic rose 7% on motorways.3% on rura1A-roads and 6% on urban A-roads. In the first quarter trucks travelled 122.3 million vehicle-kilometres (myk), compared with 116.1mvk a year earlier. Light vans did 150.4myk, compared with 116.1myk in 2004.
However, for the first time in over a year car traffic fell — by 1% to 115.4mvk. Geoff Dossetter, the FTA's external affairs director, attributes the increase in CV traffic to growth in the economy.
