Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Econocruise is to market Rockwell's Tripmaster data logging and satellite communications systems in Europe.

The American company has 100,000 units in use in its home market. Econocruise Fleet Direct will modify the system for Europe: pilot projects will be running within two months. The range is designed for fleets from five to 5,000 vehicles.

It can be supplied with keypad and a variety of download options. Fleet Direct expects to tailor the download program to operators' specifications.

Peter Humphrey, managing director of Rockwell Collins (UK), says the company sees this as high-volume industry in the "thousands, not hundreds".

Fleet Direct has recently introduced a small data logging system for light vehicles. The MIS Data 1 records date, start/stops, travelling time/distance, average and top speeds. It costs £300.

The company also previewed a fuel cut-off immobiliser system at the IRTE show. It is fitted to the inlet side of the fuel pump and is activated via a digital code. Fleet Direct general manager Tony Inskip believes the only way round the system is to fit a new fuel pump: cost is expected to be below £300.

Also on the stand was the Knight Lock vehicle airbrake anti-theft device called AIR Lock. It is one of the first LGV security systems to win SS PACT approval. With the "key" section removed air pressure can be built-up on a truck or the red line connector on a trailer. Cost is £225 per vehicle plus fitting..

Another Fleet Direct device is Rea Guard, an infra-red reversing aid. Its bleep gets more frequent as the vehicle gets nearer an obstacle—and continuous within 300mm. Rea Guard costs £250 (installed).
