Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• When the FTA inspector discovered the Dodge's nearside rear inner tyre was flat we phoned a freephone number and were put through to Mondial. The man there took down details of the vehicle, tyre size, and membership number.

For two hours we heard nothing so we rang again. Mondial had passed the problem to Reading Garage where we had hired the vechicle. Reading Garage had gone to Associated Tyre Service, based next door, which had in turn contacted its Colnbrook depot. Just as we put down the phone the tyre truck arrived.

The fitter efficiently removed the tyre and the remaining section of the valve stem — the end was missing complete with valve — using the tread breaker.

The fitter reflated the tyre but it had obviously been run flat and showed signs of bulging with splits in the side wall so it had to be replaced. The valve stem looked as though it had been in that condition for some time. All the other tyres were well up to pressure.
