• Subaru has added a third commercial vehicle to its stable with the car-derived four-wheeldrive Justy hatchback van, and more light commercial models are on the way.
With just over a quartertonne payload, and under 1m3 load space, the van is similar to the car in all but the load area and rear side panels.
A transverse 1,189cc threecylinder engine delivers 50kW through a five-speed gearbox, which has fore and aft power take-off to the prop shaft and chassis mounted differential. Four-wheel-drive mode is achieved through a switch on the gear lever, even when the vehicle is moving.
Priced at £4,900, roughly £2,000 less than the car version the Justy follows the other two Subaru commercials — the MV Brat pickup and the 700 series micro van.
The Justy is only the second CDV to reach Britain from Japan —the other being the Datsun Sunny.
O Commerial Motor understands that International Motors will be launching two more Subaru vans — probably in compact panel van class similar to the Toyata Lite-Ace around October, possibly in time for the Birmingham Motor Show.
