Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

SAVINGS in cost and weight are among the advantages claimed for the Uni-Con form of body framework recently introduced by Thomas Tong Ltd., Bolton Road, Kearsiey, Famworth, Lancs.

Basically, the system consists of using hollow steel structural sections, primarily produced for the building industry, which are electronically welded into a single unit.

For the cross bearers 3 in. by if in. by in. gauge box section is employed, with 3 in. by 2 in. for the runners. Generally speaking, this makes it possible to lower the platform height by 2 into 3 in. The manufacturer claims that while Uni-Con bodywork is fractionally lighter than conventional timber construction, the strengthto-weight ratio is considerably increased.

Prices quoted show that, compared with a typical manufacturer's platform and truck bodywork in the 14 ft. to 21 ft. 6 in. category, the new Tong range shows savings of the order of £14 to £19. Timber-built bodies are also available from the company.
