MR. D. G. STOKES, sales director of the Leyland Group, is the new president of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders for 1961/62. He succeeds the Hon. Geoffrey Rootes who now becomes deputy president. Mr. Stokes began his career in 1930 as a student apprentice at Leyland. In January, 1950, he was appointed to his present position, in which capacity he controls the Leyland, Albion and Scammell sales and service activities both at home and overseas. In 1954 Mr. Stokes became a director of Leyland Motors, Ltd. He is also managing director of Scammell Lorries, Ltd.
Mr. L. G. T. Farmer, vice chairman of the Rover Co., Ltd., and Mr. G. E. Liardet, chairman and managing director of the Simms Group, have been elected vice presidents of the S.M.M.T., in succession to Mr. M. A. H. Bellhouse, deputy chairman of the Pressed Steel Company, and Mr. Stokes.
Mr. M. L. Breeden, joint managing director of Wilmot Breeden, Ltd., is re-elected for a second term as honorary treasurer, and Sir William Black, chairman of A.E.C., Ltd., has been reappointed as an honorary officer.
