• A South London haulage contractor who smuggled cannabis into Britain among cargoes of cat litter has been jailed for three years.
John Smyth, who built up Smyth's Haulage into a successful business, was told by Judge Brian Pryor QC: "These were very serious crimes involving importations of cannabis with a potential street value of £3.25m."
The Inner London Crown Court heard that a warehouse used by Smyth in Charlton had been filled with cat litter imported from Holland, the cannabis and nearly 30,000 tablets of ecstasy.
