Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Parcels firm Federal Express will hand over most of its UK domestic business to Securicor Omega Express in May, making more than 3,500 staff redundant.

Federal Express says that it will concentrate on inter-continental services, although it is keeping six UK sites open to continue carrying parcels within the M25 ring.

It will maintain around 800 staff at depots in Enfield, London and Vauxhall and the airport locations at Prestwick, Stansted and Heathrow.

Around 300 other jobs may be saved by Securicor Omega Express which is taking over the rest of the customer base in England, Scotland and Wales — it estimates that an extra 45,000 parcels per night will be added to its weekly distribution of 1.5 million parcels.

Securicor has also been awarded an annually renewed contract to act as sole contractor for Federal Express's international distribution business to and from Great Britain accounting for 3,000 parcels a day.
