• Railfreight Distribution has been given a Government goahead to spend £65m on 450 intermodal wagons and up to 550 enclosed car transporting wagons for Channel Tunnel freight services.
The orders will be placed after companies throughout Europe have tendered.
The wagons will be compatible with UK and continental railway gauges.
Railfreight says that delivery will be phased to ensure there are sufticent wagons available for the start of tunnel services. Together with its European partners, SNCF and Intercontainer, the total fleet size runs to 1,000.
