eiNOTHER co-operative of ;mall hauliers is being set up Ind is waiting for approval by the Registrar of Companies. The company, Small Hauliers International Partnership Ltd, could be doing business in eight weeks.
The co-operative is being set up by transport consultant Mr John Wells, who told CM this week that a crunch meeting of the prospective members had resulted in approval of the draft rules and the articles of the company.
The meeting, held in London on Saturday, was to be the last if nothing had been agreed, but now the 30 members have paid up to get the association off the ground. They will have to pay £100 to join the association and £10 per year subscription plus another £100 guaranteed by each member.
The company, limited by guarantee, will have up to 50 vehicles at its disposal and the plans are for them to expand into forwarding and other areas of haulage to give their members, all small hauliers, work and cut down fees.
Mr Wells said that the only qualification for membership will be that the member has at least one vehicle registered with them.
When the idea was originally put forward in December Mr Wells told CM that he would need £5,000 in hand and a guarantee of a further £5,000, but the association is to go ahead with only half those amounts.
"It just means that the association will grow more slowly than it might otherwise have done," said Mr Wells.
As a company limited by guarantee there will be no substantial share capital involved and the members will be undertaking to cover any losses that they may make.
Mr Wells said that he would be pleased to hear from anyone interested in joining the association. Membership forms can be obtained from him at 5 Ridlands Grove, Limpsfield Chart, Surrey, telephone 088388 3010.
