IRELAND plans to take advantage of the proposed new safeguard clause amending EEC regulation 543/69 (CM la3t week) and seek a deferment of the eight-hour driving day.
Mr Timothy Dooley, the Republic's representative on the transport experts committee in Brussels, told CM : "We feel our country is so small that these regulations, if we had to implement them, would put up road haulage costs by 50 per cent, "Instead of the eight-hour day we have been suggesting nine hours for three days a week and 10 hours for two days.
