Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Heavy going

DR. JOHN GILBERT, the Minister for Transport, is reviewing the arrangements under which abnormal loads are moved on the roads.

Announcing this in the Commons, the Minister said that during 1975 6,890 such movements were authorised and 148 applications had been refused.

German link

THOMAS Cook has expanded its freight services with a new link to Coburg, Bavaria. The new link with Weichelt Spedition of Coburg has been agreed because of increasing freight business between the UK and Germany.

Cook's freight development manager, Mr Max Kundig, said that the new service would enable it to offer improved coverage of Germany and regular driver-accompanied groupage services with containers and trucks on certain routes.

Up and away

MITCHELL Cotts have set up a new air-freight arm of their operations from the former Wisk Air Cargo company which they acquired. Wisk will act as the UK arm of the international air-freight business with Miller Weedon of South Africa and Corrigan's Express of Australia as the overseas arms.

The new business is thought to be bringing more work for the British road transport firm run by the company. A spokesman for Mitchell Cotts said that it must follow that the new air-freight business will mean more work for the British trucks.

Middle East trail

HOW to lease trailers for Middle East operation will be discussed by Mr Roger Williams, md of Willhire Ltd, at the Rental and Leasing Seminar to be held by the British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association at the Royal Garden Hotel in London on March 31.
