NOT quite a rags to riches story, but the homecoming of former Eastern BRS driver Bill Atkinson marks another step in his ladder to the top, for Mr Atkinson has just been appointed managing director.
He began his career with a period at EBRS in the 1950s and followed that with a spell of bus driving. When he returned to EBRS he took the union-backed training courses and his rise through the ranks began.
Since 1966 he has been a senior traffic clerk, branch manager, contracts manager and marketing director. Since last April he has been the head of the national truck rental business. He will be based in Derby.
