Public gets behind 'go-slow' on M6

APPROXIMATELY 130 VEHICLES took part in a go-slow fuel protest on the M6 on Saturday. The trucks travelled from Lymm truckstop to Carnforth truckstop and then back again at 40mph.

Organiser Tony Burridge (pictured below left), logistics manager at Preston, Lancs-based Valera, says about 50 more trucks wanted to join the protest en route, but were unable to because the police had shut the junctions.

"The public support for this was amazing. People were waving banners from bridges."

Burridge adds another protest may be organised if prices continue to rise.

• Hauliers in Yorkshire were due to hold a protest go-slow on the M62 yesterday (16 June). Protest organiser Rob Sweeting, owner of Sweeting of Leeds, says about 170 trucks were expected to set out westbound from Junction 31 of the M62 at 2pm and drive slowly to Junction 26.

He says: "We want to tell the Government fuel prices have got out of hand."
