Benalu claims top spot in the European aluminium bulker sector, and a half share of the French market.

Last year it turned over £82m from trailer sales to over 20 countries, investing £8.6m of it in production facilities at Lievin. northern France.

Its products include Siderale aggregate tippers, Agriliner bulkers, Jumboliner moving floors. Powderliner tankers, rigids. Bulkbox swaps and Multiloader platforms.

Over 50 lightweight aggregates were sold here last year to customers such as WBB Midlands and Hansen. Tarmac took 16 Siderales and ordered five more, one of which was exhibited at Tip-Ex.

Dungannon-based BMI produces a range of wastehandling vehicles, including bulk ejector trailers. These use heavy-duty twin ram ejector systems and come with optional body styles and capacities up to 96m'.

Examples include the 11 built for Waste-a-way Recycling of Leigh-on-Sea. for a Viridor contract with Dover CC. They have a 61m' capacity, are all-steel and weigh 11.22t empty.

Two larger 92m' BMI ejectors are working for LSS Waste Management of Leeds.

Straight-frame versions have alloy bodies for hauling asphalt and aggregate cargoes, or steel bodies for rubble or scrap metal. Those built on stepframes are for grain, sawdust or other bulk materials. Ribbed aluminium and planksided bodies are options but its innovative sliding bogie tipper is the star performer.

Truly versatile, Dennison's sliding bogie chassis can reduce its length by 1.0m and often access restricted sites that an eight-wheel tipper cannot, and with 50% more payload.

Euro Trailers has added moving-floor vehicles with Keith floor systems to its range of tipper and wasteejection trailers.

Bodies are built from impact-resistant Hardox, Domex and Rukki ARM400 steels; floor systems include Keith's Running Floor 2 with 19mm aluminium planks and the rugged steel V-Floor, six of which have been sold to Scottish waste handler Billy Bowie.

Other trailer options include the U-shaped tippers of standard or heavy-duty steels, and on straight, stepped or tapering chassis and with capacities up to 69m3.

Its squat half-pipe tipper can carry glass, harcicore, aggregates and quarried stone. Options include various self-weighing systems, running gear and sheeting systems.

Fruehauf Grantham, Lincs

Fruehauf, which claims to have taken orders for 700 tipping trailers last year, has several new trailer products on the cards.

At the recent CV Show, it exhibited a standard 10.7m3 version from its popular U-shaped tipper range, but at Tip-Ex it showed significantly lighter half-pipe and bathtub aggregate tippers. They both have a redesigned chassis and unladen weights of between 5.2 and 5.4t, but with the same durability and stability characteristics.

MD Matthew Wordsworth is confident that, combined with any Lightweight tractor, they can achieve payloads of 31 tonnes.

The new lightweight aggregate will be available by mid-summer.

Granatu Traders Castleford, S Yorks

Spanish-built Granalu tippers are sold and supported in the UK by Hydraulic Discharge Equipment. One prominent client is Yorkshire haulier Alfred Hymas, which exhibited its Omega aluminium half-pipe tipper at Tip-Ex, and a smooth

sided 50m3 aluminium bulker.

HDE also showed a 65m' bulker with Keith Running Floor II, weighing just 7,200kg, which can carry a similar payload but discharge more safely.

Options include side doors and capacities up to 97m.

Granalu also builds ribbed or smooth-sided tippers or bulkers with either Keith. Hyva or Cargo Floor floor systems and auto-tailgate locks.

JBC Trailers manufactures a range of tippers, ejection and moving-floor systems. The latter use Keith systems, especially the heavy-duty VFloor design.

Standard running gear is SAF with other makes optional including disc or drum brakes.

Moving-floor specialist Knapen's UK and Ireland sales office at Downham Market is backed by a network of specialist workshops. Its self-supporting Cargowalk moving floors can carry a variety of loose or bulk cargoes. The K100 is a standard waste-spec design while the all-aluminium K200 Goldstar has a greater payload potential.

The example shown at Tip-Ex was snapped up by Eye, Suffolk-based .11 Tacey.

Kraker Trailers Newton Trailers Harlington, Beds

Dutch moving-floor specialist Kraker fits Keith or Cargo Floor systems.

Its standard 92m' CT500 with subframe is for woodchip or pallet work while the CF400 with full chassis is a heavier-duty design.

Both are backed by a five-year structure and paint warranty and a 10-year anti-corrosion agreement.

Options include side doors, hydraulic sides, roof and tailboard. TUV-approved load security. aluminium or galvanised chassis, positive or selfsteer axles and a reinforced bulkhead. The one displayed at Tip-Ex in Downton livery weighed 7.41.

Legras Industries Eperney, France

Legras builds moving-deck trailers, with either Keith steel plank floors or the tougher V-Floor.

Montracon's construction range includes tippers and bulkers built to either insulated tarmac or aggregate specification, and with a single or split tailgate.

All trailers in its ex-stock programme are designed for operation at 44 tonnes GCW and have insulated 27m' bodies and drum brakes as standard.

Bodywork design options include square ribbed monocoque, plank-sided or U-ribbed bodies, all of 48m' capacity.

Rothdean Cinderford, Otos

Rothdean is best known for its aluminium and steel bathtub-style tipping trailers for the scrap metal, aggregate and grain sectors, but its business portfolio is quite diverse.

SDC's revised tipper and balker range includes its traditional bathtub (Neville) design which now has a sloping front and eye-ended ram, and a greatly reduced weight of 6.27 tonnes.

Serrus Trailers Environmental Trailer Hire Shardlow, Derbyshire

Environmental Trailer Hire sells and supports Serrus aluminium horizontal-discharge trailers.

Exhibits at Tip-Ex included one with Keith Running Floor II and its high impact steel V-Floor system. Another with an insulated and heated body is for carrying hot asphalt. To retain the heat, exhaust gases from the tractor's exhaust system are routed through the body, thus extending standing and travelling time for the product.

Another Serrus trailer had a sliding plank floor and side curtains, for use with recyclable bulk products and/or palletised goods. A fourth high-volume bulker was for hauling woodchip, paper, plastics and other recyclable products.

Wiaan-based Swan Commercials is a family business specialising in building steel tipping trailers for scrap and waste transport.

The company's 91.7m' ejector trailer can be built to suit any customer's application.

Swan made good use of Swedish Steers Harclox/ Domex materials in its Harrogate show exhibit which was built for a long-standing customer, Davidsons & Sons from Altrincham.

Swan has a considerable client base in both the UK and Ireland.

Titan Trailers Inc Ontario, Canada

Titan Trailers and its UK and Ireland sales and service agent Allan Munro Commercials exhibited

two Thinwall trailers at Harrogate. The Thinwall rubble or heavy waste trailer is a 88.7m3 triaxle version measuring 13.56m by 4.1m and fitted with the durable Keith V-Floor system. Regular slats are optional.

Instead of a centre crossbar, it has Titan's own sturdy hydraulic flip tarp.

The other show model was a new 9.34m Thinwall triaxle aggregate trailer with six-slat Keith V-Floor and V-Plow for total body clean-out.

Trent is best known for its heavy-duty steel tipper and muckaway bodywork, all with triple cross-rails to prevent splaying. It also has a hydraulic autorelease for its 'Up and Away' tailgate.

Trent MF was aided by Swedish Steel's engineering department to develop the llrn long, 69rd steel tipping trailer Tip-Ex exhibit, for EMR's heavy scrap fleet.

It features the revised hydraulic doors, now standard on all its vehicles, which with similar sheeting systems help address many health and safety issues for drivers.

United Trailers (UK) specialises in aluminium bulk haulage vehicles from standard tippers and ejectiondischarge trailers to ones with moving-floor systems.

Ones on show at Harrogate's Tip-Ex included a superbly finished all-aluminium 88m3 ejector trailer that highlights the growing interest in horizontalejection trailers, especially for reasons of health and safety.

Aluminium models carry 1St more payload than cheaper steel versions. and will pay the extra off within 12 months. One convert is BP MeKeefry, which has added three more to its growing fleet.

Weightlifter is a major UK producer of rigid alloy tipping bodies. for anyone from owner-drivers to blue-chip fleets, and building body systems to haul glass, clay, grain, asphalt or any other material.

It produces mainly aluminium bulk tippers using its own steel chassis designs. All achieve the IRTE tilt test Category 'A' standard.

Its Peterborough branch PPG Fabrications is complemented by a new facility in Scotland to support more northerly fleets.

The Harrogate tipper show saw examples of its Smoothline models — ones with pressed and planked sides, others with insulated bodies to suit major customers such as Tarmac. Cemex and Lafarge.

Options include air-operated tail doors, access ladders. walkways and various sheeting systems.

Wilcox CVs' Tip-Ex exhibits reflected its wide range of high-quality tipping trailers, all meeting the IRTE Category 'A' tipping standard.

A monocoque aggregate tipping trailer on a straight-frame Montracon chassis included Vishay PM1155 on-board weigher with inclinometer and body up indicator, and DavAiarn Hydro Clear caboperated sheeting system.

To complement its aluminium range it showed a muckaway body built from low-weight, high-yield steels, fitted with air claw locking bar. Procover' front-to-rear net and in-cab controls.

It also displayed a 50m3U shape bulk tipping trailer with Mere disc brake axles, VPM on-board weigher with trailer-mounted display and Dawbam Hydro Clear automated cover.

The pull-out ladder and body prop are options.
