Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Scheme, which is running a couple of years behind the project south of the Border—and that's perhaps why fewer than 10% of the hauliers surveyed by CM know about IL Most hauliers, though, were keen to take advantage of anything which would help to improve their competitiveness, particularly with fuel being such a high cost to their business. One did ask, though, whether the fund would bear the cost of his drivers being taken out of their cabs to be trained—something we're not aware is available as part of the project.

The scheme was launched in January this year, with money provided by the Scottish Executive, and involvement from the RHA, FTA and Road Haulage and Distribution Training Council.

Its first move was to launch the Young Driver Training Scheme, a Elm project which has "interest from about 80 drivers", says co-ordinating officer Chris Campbell, who Is solely dedicated to the RHMF in Scotland.

Campbell says he is aware that few people know of the scheme in Scotland so fan "We will be out knocking on doors though, as well as publishing a leaflet on the scheme which will go out in July and attending some of the major transport events in Scotland."

Besides the Young Driver Training Scheme, the Scottish fund will also be used to run a driver development demonstration programme (which will include fuel economy), a modern management programme which aims to improve business skills and productivity, and a driver training simulator Some of the budget will also be used to part-fund the CleanUp Scotland campaign, which provides grants to retrofit trucks to help reduce emissions and pollution.

Campbell adds that the Scottish committee is learning from the English experience of the RHMF, and is anxious to ensure that as many hauRers as possible access the money. "We want to concentrate on a few projects and make sure we deliver them, but it's up to the industry to take full advantage of them," he warns.
