Vigorous Publicity Methods Adopted by Enterprising Proprietors at Llandudno.

DIVERSE and sundry publicity methods are adopted by Llandudno motor coach owners, whose ready re

source is concentrated in ranking the visitor to Llandudno yearn for the allurements of the open road.

Several . of the local companies issue annual handbooks ; most of them have attractive and distinctively decorated booking offices; and rill of them flood their territory with live printed publicity matter.

Full advantage is taken of the opportunity for displaying motor coaching pictures at the local hotels, boarding houses, etc., but, naturally, the sine qua non must be that it shall interest the public. The. coach-owning companies' point of view is, of course, that the pictures shall interest the public sufficently to induce them to travel by their coaches.

During a recent visit to Llandudno a representative of The Commercial Motor was shown the latest effort in this form of publicity, devised by the Llandudno Motor and Garage Co. Ltd. (the Royal" Reds, as they are popularly known), who operate a big fleet of 28-seater Thornycroft coaches. It consisted of a framed picture, about 2 ft. 6 ins, by 2 ft., in which were shown, with an eye to artistic) effect, some two dozen of the leading North Wales beauty-spots which figure on the Royal Red motor coaching routes, with a road map of North Wales in the background. Our illustration in black and white giVes a very inadequate idea of the compelling interest of the picture which, on a large scale and with

insets in hand-painted natural colourings, deftly associates the idea of "getting there" with the Royal Red coaches.

The frontage of the Royal Reds main hooking office in Llandudno is occupied by a large number of contour plaster models of North Wales, maps, and pictures of all descriptions showing the most diverse scenery in North Wales, as well as printed matter giving a wealth of information concerning mileages, fares, times, etc.

The Llandudno Motor and Garage Co. run tours to Snowdon in conjunction with the Snowdon Mountain Railway, with which company they have now arranged for a railway kiosk to be erected nett to the Royal Rods. It-ia expected that the Royal Red corner in Vaughan Street will, this season, become more of a travellers' rendezvous than ever before.

The Liandudno Motor and Garage Co. are one of those coaching companies who put a " punch " into their publicity.

Colour plays an important part in the advertising methods of Llandudno coach owners. There are the " Blues," the "Purples," the "Silvers," the "Creams" —all names that identify a fleet of coaches under the control of separate prOprietors. The Llandudno Motor Garage Co., Ltd., arc not only out to make the public " see red ' (in any but the conventional sense), but to book "Red."

A New " General " Garage.

Some indication of the ramifications of the London General Omnibus Co., Ltd., can be gained from the fact that the company have in and around London at the present time 36 garages in which their buses are housed, They now intend to erect another garage at Sutton, which, as a business centre, has developed very considerably during the past few years, and now calla for added travelling facilities. The establishment of the garage will enable the company to meet the demands of residents better than has hitherto been possible.

The garage, which will occupy a corner site in Bushey Road, will have an area of 37,000 square ft., and provide ac commodation for 100 buses. It will he complete with similar equipment to that used in other garages of the company, including washing machines, and will cost about £30,000. One interesting feature of the new garage will be the absence of posts, a floor. area free from obstructions thus being provided, which will enable the vehicles to be manoeuvred much more readily. The garage will have a fuel-storage capacity of 13,000 gallons.

Notibe of motion of a resolution pledging the Newport Town Council to the acquisition of the Newport Castle grounds for use as a vehicle park has been given by Councillor Frank Quick. The. motion stresses the need for a pro• per park for motor vehicles in the borough, more especially for motor omnibuses. A further resolution is to aim at giving central stand facilities to regular bus services and to revoke the present allocation of termini.
