JIIST as the Ford van and truck chassis have been put to all kinds of uses, so is the more recent product of the company's works—the Fordson Tractor—being turned to various classes of Work for which it was not primarily designed. Built as a machine for the farmer as an aid to the till age of. the land the Fordson Tractor has given much evidence of its adaptability for other tasks on the farm as well as on the highway. A most unusual use for a lighte-eight farm tractor is depicted in the illustrations reproduced on this page, and, although the work was performed at Eagle Rock, California, it might very easily have its counterpart in this country. The local municipal authorities embarked on a scheme for building a largecapacity reservoir on the top of a small mountain in order to furnielh a constant supply of water for domestic uses to the inhabitants of the village nestling in the valley below. The actual construction of the reservoir presented little difficulty, but the task of transporting the necessary tools and materials to the summit of the mountain was a problem of some magnitude., It was possible to use motor vehicles on a road which approached within about 350 ft. of the top, but how to get beyond this point was the chief concern of the authorities, especially as the final slope was at an angle of 45 degrees.
