THE NEW DTCO 2.0 digital tachograph from manufacturer VDO, part of Continental, has been upgraded to include a second speed motion sensor in line with legislation due on 1 October 2012 that is designed to reduce tachograph tampering.
Lutz Scholten, head of business, tachographs, telematics and services, says vehicle speed from the ABS, via the truck’s CAN-Bus to the digital tachograph, will work with the original IMS from the gearbox.
The new-genera tion digital tacho graph will also oper ate with a new KITAS 2+ sensor that regis ters any disturbance in the magnetic field around the gearbox as an ‘infringement’ within the DTCO.
VDO has also intro duced a wireless download device (DLD) for 2.0 that allows digital tachograph information required by the operator for compliance to be transferred to in-house fleet management systems without requiring a company card. Also included as part of 2.0 is a real-time driver information system called VDO Counter. It provides instantaneous data for driving time, rest periods, weekly rest periods and available driving time for the working week and fortnightly total.
