Fleet curtailed after defects found on trailer

ASHBOURNE-BASED SA Transport has had its O-licence curtailed indeinitely from ive to three vehicles after one of the irm’s vehicles was stopped and discovered to have a defect in the trailer’s brake mechanism and a tyre that was worn beyond the legal limit.

At a public inquiry in Warrington last month, Deputy Trafic Commissioner (DTC) for the North West of England, Simon Evans, was told a Vosa vehicle examiner carried out a maintenance investigation into the irm in December 2011 after the vehicle was inspected at the roadside and issued with an “S” marked prohibition for a brake defect and worn tyre.

The examiner found minor shortcomings in routine safety inspection paperwork, and was unable to ind evidence that the required audits on drivers had been carried out.

As well as curtailing the licence the TC also imposed two additional undertakings on the irm: one that routine safety inspections be carried out every six weeks and another that further evidence relating to inancial standing be supplied.

Compliance needed

The TC said he would curtail the fleet so the firm could concentrate on running a smaller number of vehicles, in the expectation that it would be able to comply with all the requirements of holding an O-licence.
