Used truck prices remain strong despite improving supply, according to IVanheim Auctions CV sales director Alex Wright.

The stock shortage situation for used LGVs eased this month, but buyers are still prepared to pay above the book price for vehicles. We have seen some vehicles making more money now than comparable trucks were 12 months ago.

The 7.5-tonne sector has a reasonable supply of product with a selection of models and body types to suit the majority of buyers. Examples in good condition with full service history are making the strongest inoney commanding a premium of over .£1,000.

Oaf and lveco boxvans are still popular, with 2002 models breaking the £6,000 barrier.A three-year-old Atego 815 curtainsider recently sold for £15,000.

Vehicles in the 18-tonne bracket are still hard to find as rental companies, which have traditionally have been a major source of product in this area, have been stalling on their deflecting process.

Anything with a crane or lifting equipment has been extremely popular and a recent batch of seven-year-old Daf 55.210 hook-loaders sold for up to £9,000. Star performers in this sector are still those few that do make it off the company fleets — a 2001 Volvo FL.18 curtainsider sold for £7,500.

All vehicles, especially those with cranes or lifting equipment, are attracting multiple bids as they enter the halls; a recent batch of 10-year-old Dal 8x4 tippers sold for £12,000. Even more impressive this month was a batch of 2002 Scani a P94.260 26-tonne dropsides with cranes which sold for £27,000 each.

Tractors continue to he in short supply.A 2002 Daf 85.430 6x2 Space Cab unit made f 13,000 and a 2003 Renault Premium 420 6x2 sold for £13,500.

Trailers are equally sought after, with four-year-old curtainsided units fetching up to i6.000. Buyers continue to consider older vehicles to counteract the shortage of stock. •
