Carberry is located in Stanton, Bury St Edmunds. The firm runs seven trucks, with a maximum gross weight of 80 tonnes. Director Brian Carberry first noticed shared-user networks two years ago. He likes the concept, although he says that there is little scope for heavy hauliers like himself.
Instead, his view is that such websites concentrate on curtainsider, fiats, and reefer operators.
Large abnormal operators often use tried-and-trusted subbies, which can mean that the heavy sector can often be a closed shop. Still, Carberry believes there could be a market for a heavy shared-user network, to fill in any routeing gaps.
