a Teleroute member for eight years. The system has its uses, says director Jon Swallow, although he prefers the personal touch -the human conversation.
"We come from a different era," he says. "Technology is taking away part of what the business is all abouta personal relationship."
Jordan Freight, which has a workforce of seven, specialises in arranging full and part loads across the Continent.
The directness of telephone calls is essential in garnering and consolidating new business, he says, adding that IT systems such as Teleroute (see panel) can be useful in generating jobs after initial contact is established, "It has its place once the relationship has been built up," he says.
But for Jordan, the emphasis is on talking. "I encourage people to get on the phone."
