Tosco is running more than 75% of its 2000, trucks on a 50% biodiesel blend marketed as Greenergy B50. Tesco is one of the first fleet operators to convert to B50 biodiesel. The move will cut the supermarket giant's greenhouse emissions, primarily carbon dioxide, by 70,000 tomes per year equivalent to removing 20,000 medium-sized cars from UK roads. Tesco has teamed up with Greenergy Fuels (which supplies more than 250 million litres of biofuels per month, more than 50% of the UK biofuels market) to build a biodiesel plant at Immingham on the Humber, The plant, which will also supply Tesco petrol stations, will have a production capacity of more than 100,000 tonnes a year.

Greenergy B50 biodiesel is a blend of 50% diesel and 50% vegetable oils, primarily rapeseed. It has a cetane number of 54.4 (the cetane number is a measure of the combustion quality of diesel fuel under compression).
