Tilbury-Zeebrugge

P&O FERRIES has commenced a roll-on roll-off (RU-RU) service between the Port of Tilbury and Zeebrugge in Belgium.

The 1,300 lane-metre ship began service on 16 July and is undertaking two round trips per day. With the planned introduction of a second freighter to the route in early aunimn. the annual capacity will be in excess of 100,000 units.

Ronny Daelman, P&O freight director, says: The strengths of Tilbury and Zeebrugge, in terms of location and ease of access, should be recognised. With major developments such as the London Olympics, we believe this route will be well placed to capitalise on forthcoming levels of demand for unaccompanied freight space."

Plans may also include new rail terminal facilities at Zeebrugge to increase capacity throughput.
