• by Mike Jewell French transport giant Norbert Dentressangle (UK) has fallen from grace this week with the decision by Traffic Commissioner Geoffrey Simms to revoke its Eastern Area Operator's Licence.

The company has also been disqualified from holding or obtaining an 0-licence in the Eastern Traffic Area for a period of three years.

The revocation will take place from the end of August giving the company some six weeks to decide what will happen to its drivers and operations based at the Aylesbury depot. It will put 35 vehicles and 35 trailers temporarily out of action.

Simms made the decision public on Monday, however, his reasons for the revocation have not yet been disclosed.

ND fUl(l's managing director, Petar Cvetkovic, declined to comment before the company's board had a chance to meet on Tuesday 17 July (after Commercial Motorwent to press).

In June, Simms heard that an examination of one month's tachograph charts from the Aylesbury depot had revealed 76 alleged drivers' hours breaches by 29 drivers (CM 21-27 June). However, the company's defence was heard in private so as not to prejudice prosecutions which are still pending.

In May, Milton Keynes Magistrates ordered two of the company's drivers to pay fines and costs totalling £700 after they admitted taking insufficient daily and weekly rest (CM 7-13 June).

The court case against a further 11 ND drivers, and against Norbert Dentressangle itself for permitting hours offences by drivers, has been adjourned until August.
