A company formed by the wife and daughter of a disqualified operator has succeeded in its bid for an 0-licence at an Aberdeen public inquiry.

The Real Mackay of Buckle, Aberdeenshire, had applied for a new licence for 12 vehicles and 20 trailers. This followed the revocation of the licence belonging to international oper ator George Mair Mackay last November.

Mair Mackay and his company were disqualified from holding an 0-licence for three years by Senior Traffic Commissioner Michael Betts, who also revoked the firm's international licence for 24 vehicles and 30 trailers.

This followed a series of prohibitions and convictions for tachograph offences, including evidence from the police that tacho seals had been tampered with. The company appealed against this decision but was dismissed by the Transport Tribunal.

Appearing for the Real Mackay, Stephen Kirkbright said there was no secret that it had been formed to take over the business of the former company. He assured the Senior TC that Mair Mackay would have nothing to do with the runnin the new company.
