• The Scottish Bus Group has expressed its "disappointment' with the Monopolies and Mergers Commission report on its Highland Scottish company.
The report found that Highland's operation in the Inverness area was anti-competitive and against the public interest because of its "over-provision of services, while incurring substantial losses" when responding to competition from Inverness Traction's minibuses. SBG managing director Malcolm Stewart says: "We are very disappointed that MMC have concluded that Highland Scottish acted in an anticompetitive way in Inverness, but we are reassured by their decision to take no remedial action against the company."
The MMC says that no remedial action was recommended because of the arrival of a financially stronger competitor on the market. The Inverness Traction operation was bought late last year by Stagecoach, and is now run as part of Magicbus.
