• Competition is building up on Blackpool seafront with the introduction of open-top "Coastliners" by Fylde Borough Transport.
For the past three summers Fylde has operated a frequent "Beachcomber" minibus service from Pontins to Gynn Square as an alternative to the Blackpool trams.
Blackpool Transport hit back in the past two seasons with a crew operated Routemaster service called "Beachroamer", and this year Blackpool won the right to pick up at Pontins taking over from Fylde, which now has to run to St Annes to turn round.
Fylde has reacted with a trio of brightly painted open
toppers which now terminate in the centre of Blackpool at Talbot Square and operate a frequent service from 09:3023:00hrs. Last summer's minis now have regular work on the Marton route in Blackpool, and would have been replaced by new buses, if the old doubledeckers had not been available.
