• Wavin Building Products, the Chippenhambased building plastics specialist, is replacing its partpanelled trailers with a batch of 20 Southfields Fleetloada semi-trailers. The trailers, which will be used to transport the Osma range of plastic plumbing and drainage products, are based on tandem-axled Southfields Comet stepframe chassis and include an innovative swing-down loading platform inside the rear doors, providing a midheight working base so the highest pipes in the trailer can be reached safely. For transit, the aluminium-alloy platform assembly folds away vertically inside the rear doors of the trailer and, since it is an openframed structure, access to the lower stacked pipes is always possible between the frame members. Heavy items, such as cast iron manhole covers, are carried separately in steel side lockers slung under the main chassis.
