the star of the 'Duncan Dares' feature who, seemingly, tries his hand at most things we lesser mortals would think twice about.
He recently became a member of the Leyland 145 team and drove in the Truck Grand Prix which took place near Merseille and his exploits will be televised shortly.
Apparently the vehicle was involved in a 'spectacular incident' which forced Duncan to retire from the first heat. In the second heat he attained a good position with an average circuit speed of 94 k/hour and a fastest lap of 2.04.22 minutes.
My information comes from Thames Valley Training who trained Duncan to drive an HGV which led to his gaining his licence only weeks before the Grand Prix.
According to TVT managing director Bob Sturgess, Duncan was the first person in the country to be trained to drive an HGV under the new training scheme operated by the TRITB — the so-called Modular Training Scheme — which eliminates the time con
straint of training. Having the relevant skill test at the end of each module is the sole criteria for a high success ratio. Says Sturgess, "We are very pleased to be able to demonstrate that modular training works — and works cost effectively — with such an illustrious first trainee."
