the road haulage industry for over 30 years and, in the past operated a fleet of vehicles involved in household removals and general freight, I would certainly agree with the statement in your Comment column (CM July 12) that the subject of driving standards is unbelievably emotive and that no one will admit to being a bad driver.
You suggest that it is important for the outside world to see that the standard of HGV driving is as high as we would all like to think, but offer no advice or guidance on how this should be done, either in your editorial, or in the accompanying news items concerning the Overtaking report from the Cranfield Institute of Technology.
Regretfully, the same can be said of the trade associations representing road haulage interests, who appear to be frightened to criticise their members and offer assistance and advice on how to encourage their drivers to drive less aggressively.
Come on, somebody out there. Put your thinking caps on and come up with some incentive to good driving that could be adopted by the industry.
