.11 Monday, June 23, was the starting date for the Econocruise Economy Drive '86. A five-day non-stop journey .around Britain to demonstrate the benefits of the Econocruise speed limiter system. To mark the occasion we're ,running an easy-to-enter competition with a supersonic flight for two aboard Concorde as the first prize.

Answer the questions below and a Christmas daytrip to Lapland for two on December 21 could be yours. The six runners-up will each win an Econocruise cruise control system for their car (worth £200) including free fitting.

To help you win we've drawn and described the route — a round trip of 1,600krn (1,000 miles). Apart from regular stops for refuelling and driver changeovers, the journey will be continuous for five days, during which we hope to complete five circuits.

The truck will be a Seddon Atkinson 301 6x2, with Cummins LTA 10-290 engine, Spicer SST 1310-4A gearbox,

3.70:1 drive axle ratio, 11R 22.5 tyres, coupled to the Commercial Motor/Crane Fruehauf tandem axle trailer (38 tonnes).

First prize will go to the person who estimates correctly the overall mpg figure achieved on the run. In the event of a tie, the total mileage answer will be taken into account.

THE ROUTE Start at the Post House Hotel, Heathrow. M4 west to the M5 (Bristol). M5 north to the M6 (Birmingham). M6 north to the A74 (Carlisle). A74/M74 north to the M73 (Glasgow). M73/A8/M8/A8 east to Edinburgh. Al south to Newcastle (Tyne Tunnel). A1(M)/A1/A1(M) south to M18 (Doncaster). M18 south west to Ml. M1 south M10 link to M25. M25 south eastwards, through Dartford Tunnel and round London rejoining the M4.

This route was followed continuously from 10.30am on Monday, June 23, until 5pm on Friday, June 27. Cruise speed was set for the legal maximum speed on the A-roads/motorways used. RULES 1. This competition is open only to bonafide members of the raod transport and coach industries. Employees of Econocruise, Cummins Engine Company, Conoco, Seddon Atkinson, Crane Fruehauf, Business Press International or any other companies supporting the promotion, or their families, are not eligible to enter.

2. Only one entry per person will be accepted and this must be submitted on the official entry form.

3. Entries must be received at the I competition address no later than

lAugust 15, 1986. No responsibility will be accepted for entries lost or delayed in the post. Proof of posting will not be accepted as proof of delivery.

4. The prizes will be awarded to Ithose persons whose answers ; correspond to or come nearest to the fuel consumption meter and tachograph distance recording obtained from the Econocruise truck.

5. An PTA official will act as judge for the competition and his decision will be final and binding.

6. The winning entries will be announced in September and the prizewinners will receive their prizes at the AE Group stand at the Motor Show in October. No cash equivalents will be given.
