OLD NEWS

• More historic commercial vehicles are going to qualify for exemption from the HGV Plating and Testing Regulations.

Currently, commercial vehicles over 1,525kg unladen, manufactured before January 1, 1940 and used unladen are exempt from plating and testing. As from August 1, the exemption date is to be brought forward to January 1, 1960. The precise amendment is The Goods Vehicles (Plating and Testing) (Amendment) (No2) Regulations 1986. Commented Roads Minister Peter Bottomley: "The change in the date requirement from 1940 to 1960 will reduce the cost of preserving goods vehicles that have come to the end of their working life and enable enthusiasts to display these historic vehicles more easily at rallies and exhibitions."
