TO HULL AND BACK
II North Sea Ferries has just opened its new terminal at Zeebrugge. It includes new freight parking facilities on some recovered land.
The new terminal is in preparation for the refurbished jumbo ferries Norland and Norstar. These are currently on the Hull/Rotterdam (Europoort) route, but will transfer to the Hull/Zeebrugge service in the first half of 1987.
Replacing them on the Hull/ Rotterdam (Europoort) route will be two new £80 million ferries, one being built in Japan, the other in Glasgow. The Scottish-built vessel is the largest passenger ship built in the UK since the QE2 in 1969.
SEAUNK SERVICES
▪ Sealink British Ferries is
supplementing its existing Dover-Dunkerque service by putting an additional freightonly ferry on to the route.
The Sea freight Freeway accommodates 80 x 15 metre units and has cabins for their drivers. It will also handle unaccompanied trailers.
This service takes advantage of the "Ghyvelde Corridor" from Dunkerque up to the border with Belgium, allowing lorry traffic to transit this road without French permits.
Seufreight Freeway starts on the route this Monday (Jul■ 21).
Sealink has also increased the capacity on its HarwichHook of Holland service. The freight-only Stena Sailer has been chartered and is operating in tandem with the St Nicholas on the route.
KING'S LYNN-HAMBURG • A new, larger ship has been introduced on to the King's Lynn-Hamburg ferry service operated by VVashbay Line. The Alster Rapid can accommodate 214 TEU containers, including 18, refrigerated ones plugged into power points. The Washbay Line's UK agent is Lynn Ferries of King's Lynn.
