Citybus into service. It was expected to start operating last winter but was delayed owing to unexpected certifications requirements, and by extensive field trials and driver training programmes.
The Alexander-bodied double-decker is now running on a route in North London. The Cumulo system (see CM October 5, 1985) works by using energy generated during braking. which is normally lost as heat and friction — to fuel a pressure accumulator. A microprocessor senses when the bus can be hydraulically powered and by-passes the normal driveline. This can result in a 15% fuel saving.
