Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

EXPORTS of commercial vehicles to EEC countries since 1979 have balanced imports — but in numbers only. The value of the imports far exceeded that of exports.

Minister of State for Trade Cecil Parkinson, said in the Commons that during 1979 38,000 commercial vehicles had been imported and exported to the Common Market, while up to May this year the figures had again corresponded, at 20,000.

The value of the 1979 imports had been £236m, with exports totalling Ul 93m. while for 1980 the figures had been El 24m and £93m.

But a different picture was presented by trade with the rest of the world In 1979, 32,000 commercial vehicles, worth £161m had been imported, while 115,000 — worth £488m — had been exported.

Up to May this year 16,000 vehicles, worth £.77m had been imported, while the value of the 37 000 exports had come to 1194m.
