FARES for all but short journeys on Aberdeen Corporation buses are to rise by one penny from July 21. The increase, approved on July 9 by the Scottish Traffic Commissioners, will net another £244,000 a year, but the undertaking still faces a deficit of £172,000 by May.
The cost of a journey of between three and six stages will go up to 5p and the highest fare will be 6p. Fares for old-age pensioners, short journeys, and children remain unchanged.
Municipal fares in Aberdeen were increased in May last year and the reasons given for the latest rise were wage and salary awards, more costly fuel and equipment, dearer national insurance, superannuation, and sickness payments.
