R. P. Spencer, BRS Parcels traffic assistant at Tottenham, becomes Canterbury branch manager. , K. D. Angell, traffic operator at Brighton, moves to Slough as designate manager; W. C. Bickle, the present manager, retires shortly. J. R. Nicholson becomes Wellingborough designate manager where R. N. Wheeler is also retiring soon. Mr Nicholson was previously Swindon manager.
E. C. Reepe becomes manager (south-east) for Pickfords Tank Haulage. His new duties include overall responsibility for Grays depot. Denis Whitby, chief accountant with PD Wharfage & Transport Ltd, assumes the additional responsibility of company secretary in succession to Jeremy Watts, who joins another member of the group, Hymac Ltd. John English becomes assistant secretary and personnel manager, and continues to act as insurance manager.
J. P. Wells (chairman and md, Wells & Son (London) Ltd) has been elected an ordinary member of the council of the Chartered Institute of Transport to serve for three years from October 1.
Kenneth A. Beresford (Beresford Transport Ltd) has been elected chairman of the Transport Association. W. Barry Hercock (Hercock Simpson & Co), and Glynn Samuel (A. M. Walker Ltd) are vice-chairmen.
J. D. Brookes has been appointed chairman of BRD Co Ltd, Hardy Spicer Ltd and Laycock Engineering Ltd, three companies within the transmission sub-group of GKN Ltd. 0. D. Jones is appointed deputy chairman of BRD Co Ltd and D. Mackin is now managing director. The new deputy chairman of Hardy Spicer Ltd is A. A. Halsimann. S. Armstrong is appointed deputy chairman and managing director of Laycock Engineering Ltd. D. T. Wilkinson is appointed chairman of GKN Centrax Gears Ltd, Salisbury Transmission Ltd and Kirkstall Forge Engineering Ltd. Mr Wilkinson is also appointed managing director of Salisbury Transmission Ltd.
Roland Bertodo, leader of the research team which developed the Perkins Squish Lip combustion system, becomes Perkins Engines Group director of product engineering. David Burnicle moves up to director of applications engineering.
