Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A LORRY DRIVER responsible for the death of two men changing a tyre on the hard shoulder has been sentenced to six years in prison.

Malcolm John Simpson, 62, from Selby, North Yorkshire, was convicted of two counts of causing death by dangerous driving following a three-day trial at Chester Crown Court. The incident took place on 9 September 2010, where victims Thomas Southward and Philip Cawley were changing a tyre on the hard shoulder of the M6, close to junction 17.

Simpson, who was employed by Musgrave Transport, was travelling north on the M6 when he drove onto the hard shoulder and collided with the two men.

The collision was recorded on the Highways Agency’s CCTV footage and showed the vehicle driving onto the hard shoulder and back out, almost on to the middle lane. It then drifted back into the hard shoulder where it crashed.

A Musgrave Transport spokesman says: “We are glad the case has inally come to a conclusion so the families of the victims can start to rebuild their shattered lives. It has been a traumatic experience for all involved. Our thoughts are with the families and the driver.”
