Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

QLast month one of my drivers was stopped in a roadside check and his tachographs inspected. No problems, except that the traffic examiner told the driver that he wanted to see a line at the beginning of the day and a line at the end of the day to signify start and end.

I asked our local examiner and he said that this was incorrect — is this another case of policies differing from traffic area to traffic area? Who is right, and what do we do?

PS, Portsmouth AThis seems to be a problem that won't go away. Don't let drivers do anything to a tacho disc outside the centre field. Most drivers have enough problems remembering the "mode" switch. Another reason is that it could be used by the unscrupulous to hide infringement. I would call it defacement and it changes the burden of proof onto your shoulders.
