Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

QMy husband is looking to buy a 16.5tonne truck with a body that makes it 4.6m tall. I know that there is a 4.2m limit for artics in this country — does this extend to rigids?

Can you also tell me if there is any way of discovering which roads would be impassable for the truck we intend to buy. JL, Bicester AThere is no restriction on height for rigid vehicles in this country unless they fall into the categories defined in the Construction and Use Regulations which refer to engineering plant, skips and containers, when the height is restricted to 3.66 metres.

I would suggest that you put a notice in the cab to remind you of the height. Your route planning is going to be tricky. Most county councils produce a booklet on known bridge clearances. More importantly a publication called Bridge Bashing highlights the problems for operators of the inadequate warnings on routes. Be careful!
