Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• East Sussex haulier JJ Adam has set up a transport company with a Dutch partner as a base for its drive into Europe. The company, called JJ Adam Holland, will be 50150owned by Adam and the Dutch firm, and will be based in Hazeldonk, near Breda.

Although the company employs only five people, director and general manager Jim Hardisty says it will eventually coordinate all Adam's Continental activities and could employ 15.

It is the most significant move into Europe so far by the Polegate-based haulage firm, which was begun by a Belgian who settled here after World War I. His son Jules Adams now runs the company.

It has already established partnership arrangements with transport firms in France and Belgium, SMTS of Paris and Teveco of Antwerp. Its twice weekly groupage services are being increased to five a week by the end of the year.

Adam employs 80 and has a fleet of 45 vehicles and 33 trailers. Hardisty says the company also wants to buy a road haulage operation in the north of England.

Although the company has run occassional European services since 1973, it is only during the past few years that the work has become regular and deals have been established with continental partners.

Hardisty says there will be a regular exchange of staff between the two companies.
