• A new French commercial vehicle based loosely on the original Willys Jeep is being launched in the UK by a former sales director of Lotus.
Terry Clarkson claims the Dallas offers a 600kg payload in a four-wheel-drive vehicle powered by Peugeot's 1,360cc petrol engine. The Dallas is fitted with a five-speed all synchromesh gearbox, and independent suspension, and can operate in either front-wheeldrive or four-wheel-drive. The vehicle has been available in France for the last three years, built by Automobile Grandin of Paris. Clarkson says he is looking for between 18 and 22 dealers to offer the vehicle in this coun try, and hopes to sell up to 200 models in the first year.
Dallas is built on an all steel, galvanised chassis, with a high impact resistant composite body shell. It is available with both hard and soft tops.
Clarkson hopes the vehicle will be ready for sale in the UK by April, with a starting price of 25,800 (plus VAT).
